AVG Install Link and instructions regarding notifications/popups

With regards to the Microsoft Security essentials, it will continue to function but will not get updated.
Two options are:
Upgrade the PC to Win 7.
Install AVG Free from this link:
http://download.cnet.com/AVG-AntiVirus-Free-2014/3001-2239_4-10320142.html?spi=6a5298bac593dc853b6646da1b988d3f&part=dl-avg_free_gb

Choose Basic Protection and then CUSTOM install, remove all the ticks from the additional components.
It will need a reboot at the end.

Then you can remove MSE.

 

 

Step 1

Right-click the AVG icon in the notifications area of your Windows taskbar and then click "Open AVG," or launch the program from your Windows Start screen.

Step 2

Click the "Options" drop-down button at the top of the window and select "Advanced Settings…" to open the Advanced Settings dialog.

Step 3

Click Appearance in the left sidebar, and then uncheck the box next to "Display System Tray Notifications" under System Tray Notifications.

Step 4

Click the "OK" button, click "Yes" and authenticate with an administrator account if prompted by User Account Control. AVG will no longer display notifications from your Windows system tray.
