Creating a new mailbox with a customers secondary Domain/or shared mailbox for username that already exists
Posted by Claire Salmon on 01 May 2020 09:34 AM
Note: This can be done for either shared mailboxes or regular mailboxes.
If a company has more than one domain and they want a new mailbox set up for a secondary domain, but the username is already name exists you will need to do the following
Example  - The client already has an email for [email protected] but now they also want [email protected]

Step 1:

The problem occurs when you create the new mailbox with the secondary domain ([email protected])  it automatically tries to put [email protected] as an alias, and then complains because this already exists.

To avoid this, start by creating an email that is similar to but not the same as the one that you want. ([email protected]

Step 2:

Check the original email ([email protected]) for alias' that matches the one you are trying to create and if they are there, remove them.

Go to your newly created email and add the desired email as an Alias.

Make the alias the primary email and username. It may take a while for these changes to reflect in the admin portal.
